Two weeks left to go! On April 23, 2010 we will no longer be PCT (Peace Corps Trainees) but PCV (Peace Corps Volunteers)! For the next 2 weeks we will wrapping up our Bemba language classes, sharing our final cultural presentations, and celebrating with our host families with some good old American cooking! We are planning on making French toast with homemade banana syrup.

As you can see, we have also uploaded a few photos! The one of the two of us was taken just outside our homestay porch. The other one was taken by Joey from a rocky hill just behind our new house in Central Province (where we go for cell service). You have to look very closely, but you will see our tiny hut just in the middle of the photo. We wanted you to see how rural we are and how beautiful our backyard is!  The hills in the distance are the D.R.C. and the maize field towards the bottom is our host family's.

As a final note here are some highlights that have happened to us recently:

  1. In our bedroom, we noticed that our curtains are actually Looney Toons bedsheets made in 1993.
  2. Our Bataata wears a Jo-Ann Fabric uniform (circa 1990)
  3. We’ve seen 2 Chicago Bears Superbowl Champions shirts from 2007 (when they sadly lost to the Colts)
  4. Yesterday Joey and I raced across the yard. Our Bamayo proudly said, “On your mark, success, go!” (Joey won)
  5. We eat PBandJ's everyday for breakfast.

  1. Hi you too! I have thought a lot about you two this week! I was in Michigan and I couldn't help but think of how much I miss you guys. I just read through all of blogs and definitely laughed out loud a few times. You guys are awesome and I can only imagine the memories you are making! I wish you all the best and I look forward to reading more in the future! (I finally got my act together and put your blog on the top of my 'Bookmark' list)

  2. Hi Joy and Joey,
Your mom, Joey, sent us your blog site, and I just read all of your entries so far. It brings back SO many memories, as Teke (my husband) and I spent our honeymoon in Tunisia, N. Africa with the PC. (many years ago!)
Your experiences sound wonderful...and we will thoroughly enjoy following you through your blogs. I know we haven't actually met, but I feel like we know you through your mom, Joey, and your mom and Rich, Joy. All very special people! We look forward to seeing all of them in Boston in about 2 weeks!
Thanks so much for doing your part to reach out to help others. You are giving a tremendous gift!

You two are going to be the king and queen of Zambia before we know it! That picture from the hill is awesome; you guys better be doing some runs when you get the time. You two look like PCV's in your picture, i love it. I miss talking to your ass Goeber; I've been trying to fill the whole with Kiefer but it just isn't the same hahaha. The Lions got the big DT from Nebraska and Best a Rb from Cal both solid in the first round. The Bears are still cleaning up Cutlers poop that he left on the field and have no picks haha. I'm just waiting for the next phase of my training to pick up which should be in may and last about 6 months, so that's about all I'm doing. I love you guys and miss you. Keep your head on a swivel and footfire...

    Love

I'll be keeping up on your posts,

  4. Joy & Joey!

Omg Omg Omg I miss you both so much, but it sounds like you two are definitely having a lot of fun and learning a lot! I miss seeing your wonderful smiling faces here in Lansing, but I know that both of you are in your right place(s). I definitely bookmarked your blog, so I'll try to do a better job of reading it more frequently lol. Things are going well here (well except for your absence of course!)... I moved to DeWitt, MI... and am getting fully adjusted to being on 3rd shift. Good times! I miss you both... keep loving and living :)

    P.S. - Kai says hello :)
